One-page themes: OnePress vs Shapely vs Mesmerize

Compare OnePress, Shapely, and Mesmerize for one-page sites, anchor navigation, editing workflows, companion plugins, and Pro costs.

Three abstract website section panels along a curved path beside a compass in teal and mint.

A one-page website promises a simple visitor journey: introduce the offer, explain the service, show relevant evidence, and provide a contact route. That simplicity can disappear if every section uses a different editing tool or the navigation points to anchors that no longer exist. The most useful theme is the one whose section model your team can maintain after the initial launch.

OnePress, Shapely, and Mesmerize are three WordPress themes with free starting points for this kind of site. This comparison focuses on anchored navigation and a single homepage narrative, rather than general business-theme foundations. It uses official sources checked October 13, 2026. We did not run the themes or measure their speed, accessibility, or conversion rates.

Understand the one-page editing model

A one-page theme does not mean the entire website must be one URL. You can still keep service detail, privacy information, and a blog on separate pages. The main page should help visitors scan and decide what to do next, while supporting pages hold information that needs a permanent address or more space.

The inspected free packages use classic PHP templates, not native FSE site templates. Their homepage construction methods differ: OnePress uses theme sections, Shapely uses widgets, and Mesmerize combines Customizer editing with a companion plugin. Publishing blocks in a post is separate from editing those homepage structures. For native template ownership, see our WordPress block theme comparison.

Theme Homepage workflow Useful fit Paid or dependency boundary
OnePress Customizer sections and anchor IDs Structured service introduction with familiar controls Plus is an optional plugin; listed at $69
Shapely Homepage widgets and supporting content plugins Image-led one-page narrative without a theme upgrade fee Companion and selected integrations need separate maintenance
Mesmerize Customizer editing with Mesmerize Companion Owner who wants editable predesigned sections Pro annual plans displayed at €79 / €99 / €199 before VAT

OnePress

OnePress is useful when a project benefits from a predictable sequence of sections. The directory page describes a one-page business theme, and the official documentation explains a dedicated front-page template and Customizer setup. Each section can have an ID for the one-page menu. That makes the relationship between navigation and content explicit.

The advantage is clarity for the person maintaining the page. A service section belongs to a named area rather than an arbitrary set of builder containers. The limitation is that the available theme controls define the scope of easy changes. If the owner expects freely nested layouts throughout the page, establish whether the section system can achieve that without custom development.

The paid extension is OnePress Plus, a plugin rather than a fourth theme or a replacement theme ZIP. It adds features such as section ordering, styling, and additional section types. The page displayed $69. Confirm the exact supported-site allowance and renewal total for that individual purchase; the reviewed Plus page did not make them sufficiently explicit. Do not substitute the separate club plan’s price for the plugin’s cost.

The theme page describes free unlimited website use and advertises annual auto-renewal for paid access. It also offers a separate theme club with broader entitlement. These are distinct purchasing routes. For a single site, identify the smallest package that includes the needed sections and document which account controls future updates.

Demo importing uses FameThemes Demo Importer. The import instructions recommend Contact Form 7 and WooCommerce when those functions are needed, and detect Plus for the appropriate demo. The importer is a setup dependency, while a working contact form remains an ongoing dependency. Version 2.3.23 was updated September 11, 2026. OnePress is a good fit for a deliberate section outline, with paid enhancements chosen only when the free model reaches a real limit.

Shapely

Shapely builds its homepage from widgets. The current directory description identifies parallax sections, a portfolio grid, testimonials, client logos, a call to action, and a contact block. Conventional blog layouts are also available. This suits a visual narrative where a few large images introduce the work and lead visitors toward an inquiry.

The main strength is a free theme with a substantial presentation model, rather than a minimal free shell whose necessary sections all require an upgrade. We did not identify a separate Shapely Pro theme license in the official material reviewed. That does not make the whole site cost-free: hosting, forms, email delivery, shop extensions, and paid services still need their own budgets.

The official product page discusses Shapely Companion in its maintenance information. Its documentation explains homepage widgets, importing widget settings, and using Jetpack content types for the documented portfolio workflow. These are important distinctions. A theme screenshot can represent the combined result of several plugins; evaluate the combination you intend to maintain.

Widget-based layout is approachable when the page consists of a manageable sequence of sections. It becomes less attractive when a team needs intricate content relationships or frequent structural redesigns. Keep key service descriptions on ordinary pages as well, and document the widget settings used for the homepage. A theme switch may preserve posts but does not automatically reproduce those presentation settings.

Colorlib advertises compatibility with tools including WooCommerce, Elementor, Jetpack, and common form plugins. That does not mean Elementor owns the default widget homepage or that all third-party combinations have been independently verified. The directory package was 1.3.7, updated October 1, 2026. Choose Shapely for its visual section workflow and free theme entry, after identifying the companion and content plugins actually needed by your design.

Mesmerize

Mesmerize emphasizes editing predesigned sections through the Customizer. Its directory description lists a predesigned homepage, five header designs, and more than thirty content sections. This can suit an owner who wants to adapt an existing composition rather than build a new page system from scratch.

The supporting official getting-started documentation includes installation of Mesmerize Companion. Budget that plugin as part of the intended workflow, not as an incidental extra. Contact and subscription areas also need the chosen form or email integration; the vendor page names Contact Form 7 and Mailchimp for WordPress among possible tools.

The strength is a broad set of starting sections and editing controls. The tradeoff is a theme-specific construction system. Before building a long page, decide how service copy, imagery, form configuration, and section settings will be preserved during a future redesign. Keep the content itself organized independently of a particular hero layout.

The current main product page displayed annual Pro plans in euros: Personal €79 for one supported site, Business €99 for five, and Agency €199 for unlimited sites, excluding VAT. It also displayed discounted lifetime options at €169, €239, and €449 for the corresponding allowances. Older demo pages show different dollar figures and plan labels, so they should not be used as the current buying quote. Confirm currency, tax, promotion, and the exact renewal charge at checkout.

The same main page states that Pro features continue after annual access expires, while updates and support require renewal. It also contains legacy coming-soon wording and mixed WooCommerce descriptions: general marketing says WooCommerce-ready, while a feature section labels richer commerce presentation Pro. Resolve the exact free-versus-Pro store requirement with the vendor before purchasing. Version 1.6.187 was updated August 12, 2026. Mesmerize is best for someone who specifically wants its section editing model, rather than someone expecting native FSE or an Elementor starter-site entitlement.

Choose a section model your team can maintain

Start with a short outline: offer, services, relevant examples, practical questions, and contact. Remove sections that do not support those tasks. Then confirm how the editor updates each area and how navigation IDs are kept stable. A page with fewer well-maintained sections is usually a more sensible operating choice than an imported demo full of unused features.

On staging, check sticky-header behavior, anchor destinations, keyboard navigation, long section headings, and contact-form delivery. These are recommended acceptance tasks, not measured results from this comparison. Use ordinary links for supporting pages, and keep a blog separate if regular publishing matters. For a broader site architecture, our business-theme comparison helps frame the foundation choice.

Choose OnePress for a structured section-based homepage and clearly optional Plus features. Choose Shapely for a visual widget-based narrative with a free theme entry. Choose Mesmerize for predesigned sections edited through its Customizer and companion workflow, after checking current checkout terms. If you actually want Elementor to own the entire page construction process, our Elementor theme comparison covers that different decision.
