Building a course website means choosing two things at once: the experience learners see and the system that stores lessons, enrollment, progress, and payments. A polished university homepage can distract from a weak fit for your actual teaching model. Eduma, MasterStudy, and TutorStarter approach that decision through three different LMS ecosystems.
This comparison is for independent educators and small training organizations choosing a WordPress course site. It uses official product pages, documentation, and pricing checked on October 14, 2026. We have not installed or benchmarked these themes. The featured illustration represents learning concepts, not any vendor interface.
What an education theme should provide
An education theme supplies layouts and styling around an LMS. The LMS handles learning records; payment and video services add further responsibilities. Start with whether courses are self-paced, instructor-led, or sold by multiple teachers. Then decide how learners register, regain account access, and find their next lesson. These requirements matter more than the number of homepage demos.
These are traditional theme and plugin workflows rather than a shortlist of native Full Site Editing themes. Gutenberg support means you can edit compatible content with blocks; it does not establish that every course template, header, and dashboard is editable through the WordPress Site Editor. If that is your primary requirement, compare our native block theme foundations separately.
| Theme | Course ecosystem | Editing approach | Cost boundary |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eduma | LearnPress and bundled learning add-ons | Elementor with Thim Elementor Kit; block compatibility | US$79 Regular License; verify bundle and support terms |
| MasterStudy | MasterStudy LMS and bundled Pro | Elementor; legacy builder references remain | US$59 theme; Pro Plus is a separate entitlement |
| TutorStarter | Tutor LMS free or separately licensed Pro | Elementor or Gutenberg; Customizer shell | Free theme; Pro LMS starts at US$199/year for one site |
Eduma
Eduma’s official listing connects the theme to LearnPress, includes premium LearnPress add-ons, and documents Elementor with Thim Elementor Kit. It also advertises WooCommerce compatibility and education demo imports. The live Regular License selector shows US$79 before tax and handling, despite an older US$69 sentence elsewhere on the page. Six months of ThimPress support and future theme updates are listed.
The practical strength is an education-specific starting point within the LearnPress ecosystem. An organization already using LearnPress should investigate this route before migrating its course records simply to obtain a new visual design. Keep a written list of the bundled add-ons you actually need, particularly for assessments, payments, and teacher administration. A bundle is useful only when its included versions meet the project requirements.
The limitation is that theme purchase and independent plugin ownership are different decisions. Ask how bundled learning add-ons receive updates, whether they remain usable after switching themes, and which features require a direct license. Do not transfer assumptions from a standalone LearnPress plan onto the Eduma bundle. Also check the selected demo’s builder: the listing’s changelog says older Visual Composer and SiteOrigin demo imports were removed, so a tutorial for an old package may mislead a new buyer.
Eduma suits a school that wants a recognizable course catalog and accepts LearnPress as its long-term learning platform. Before purchase, map one complete learner journey from course discovery to enrollment and lesson completion. Use your real curriculum and lesson titles when reviewing the demo, so the decision reflects the teaching workload rather than its sample imagery.
MasterStudy
MasterStudy’s theme listing offers the theme for US$59 and states that MasterStudy Pro is included. It lists Elementor, WooCommerce compatibility, course building, quizzes, drip content, and instructor monetization. These statements describe the advertised package; they do not prove that every current standalone LMS feature is included in the theme license.
That distinction matters because Stylemix’s theme documentation describes Pro Plus as an upgrade, with a three-month trial and an introductory annual-plan discount for theme users. A trial is not permanent access. If a sales page mentions Pro while a feature tutorial mentions Pro Plus, get the entitlement clarified before committing your course architecture. We have not confirmed a personalized Pro Plus renewal quote.
MasterStudy is attractive when a training business wants its theme and LMS supplied by one vendor. That can simplify the initial design conversation: marketing pages, course lists, and the learning area share a product family. The tradeoff is a stronger dependence on the vendor’s package boundaries. Build the budget around the exact feature set you will retain after any promotional period ends.
Support deserves a direct check. The marketplace purchase panel currently says StylemixThemes does not support the item, while the descriptive text offers support. Treat that as an unresolved source conflict, not a promise of unlimited assistance. Likewise, the listing retains Visual Composer wording alongside Elementor support. Confirm the builder and support channel for the downloadable package you intend to buy. MasterStudy makes sense when those answers are satisfactory and its LMS fits your teaching model.
TutorStarter
TutorStarter in the WordPress directory is a free Themeum theme built around Tutor LMS. The directory records version 4.0.5, updated October 5, 2026, and describes Elementor and Gutenberg support, Customizer settings, and three starter home layouts. The theme is the presentation layer; installing it does not automatically provide every paid Tutor LMS capability.
This separation is its main advantage. A solo educator can investigate the free theme and LMS core before purchasing advanced learning features. Tutor LMS pricing currently lists annual Pro plans at US$199 for one site, US$399 for up to ten sites, and US$799 for unlimited sites, excluding taxes. Lifetime plans have different site limits, including a fifty-site Agency limit, so do not treat annual and lifetime agency allowances as interchangeable.
The TutorStarter documentation describes its block and Elementor starting points. Starter import is a companion workflow; the vendor’s support guidance references TutorMate for imports. Keep the theme, LMS, and importer responsibilities distinct, and remove unused sample material before launch. A demo importer does not replace authoring a coherent curriculum or configuring learner emails.
The limitation is additional purchasing and configuration if your project needs Pro features. The pricing page advertises features involving external AI credentials; those services are not free simply because an LMS plan includes an integration. The annual price is a current plan price, not a guaranteed future renewal rate. Confirm checkout and renewal terms rather than deducting an advertised promotion yourself. TutorStarter is the most direct fit here for an educator who wants to choose learning functionality separately from a free visual foundation.
Choose around the learner workflow and ongoing cost
Write down who owns lessons, who can edit them, how access expires, and what happens after a failed payment. If you sell recurring access, confirm that subscription behavior exists in your exact LMS and payment combination. WooCommerce compatibility alone does not prove support for recurring enrollments. Our WooCommerce theme comparison explains the separate storefront layer.
Price two years of operation: theme purchase, LMS renewals, any subscription extension, video delivery, transactional email, payment fees, and staff time. Eduma’s and MasterStudy’s marketplace licenses cover a single end product rather than unlimited client sites. Check Envato’s license terms against your access model with the vendor; do not assume charging students has the same licensing implications as selling unrelated physical goods.
Before launch, use a private staging environment to check keyboard navigation, lesson readability on a phone, registration recovery, receipts, and the result of canceling enrollment. Ask where progress records live and how you could export them. Review the current compatibility matrix for your WordPress, PHP, LMS, and payment versions together. No measured speed ranking is claimed in this comparison.
Which theme should you choose?
Choose Eduma when LearnPress is the platform you want and its education layouts and documented bundle fit your curriculum. Choose MasterStudy when its integrated LMS family suits the business, after resolving Pro versus Pro Plus and the support conflict. Choose TutorStarter when a free theme with separate Tutor LMS purchasing gives you the clearest control over initial and ongoing costs. The right choice supports the learner journey you can maintain, not merely the demo you prefer.
